Robert McNamara: The Five Lives Of A Lost War By James G. Blight And Janet M. Lang The Living And The Dead: Robert McNamara And Five Lives Of A Lost War

Review by: [Your Name]

Robert McNamara: The Five Lives of a Lost War is a groundbreaking biography of one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. McNamara served as Secretary of Defense under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, and he played a key role in the Vietnam War.

Blight and Lang's book is a deeply researched and nuanced portrait of a complex man. They draw on a wide range of sources, including McNamara's own personal papers, to provide a rich and detailed account of his life and career.

The book is divided into five sections, each of which focuses on a different period of McNamara's life. The first section covers his early years and his rise to power in the Ford Motor Company. The second section examines his tenure as Secretary of Defense and his role in the Vietnam War. The third section discusses his post-Vietnam years, when he became an outspoken critic of the war and a leading advocate for nuclear disarmament. The fourth section explores his personal life and his relationships with his family and friends. The fifth section provides an assessment of McNamara's legacy.

Blight and Lang's book is a must-read for anyone interested in the Vietnam War or in the life of Robert McNamara. It is a deeply informed and insightful account of a complex and controversial figure.
